Season opener moved to Sept. 21

The Pocket Rockets’ (note placement of apostrophe) fifth anniversary season won’t start until Sept. 21 (per BSSC decision). The PRs will open with Sunday Funday at 3 p.m. at Smith Field in Lower Allston. Here’s a quickie look at the full-season schedule:

  • Sept. 21, 3 p.m. vs. Sunday Funday @ Smith
  • Sept. 26, 9 a.m. vs. Beer Factor @ Smith
  • Oct. 5, 3 p.m. vs. Hale and Dorr @ McKinney
  • Oct. 12, 1 p.m. vs. With Ourselves @ Smith
  • Oct. 19, Noon vs. Gender Play @ McKinney
  • Oct. 26, Noon vs. Dumpy Drawers @ Smith

Also, as part of this year’s celebration I’ve turned back the clock on the unis. We’re going back to the slime green baby! Wear shorts/pants that clash.

Party for a Cure

Mere is throwing her annual Party for a Cure at the Pearl St. pad on Sept. 26. I hope to see the PRs out in force.

PRs kickoff 5th year celebration Sept. 7

Weather permitting, the Pocket Rockets will open the season at a rebuilt Smith Field on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 9 a.m. vs. Dumpy Drawers. Here’s the slate of opening games. Inclement weather known as Hurricane Hanna could impact our game so please check the bssc website or call me on Sunday morning to check if the game is still on.

The roster for the upcoming season has lots of familiar faces. The PRs welcome back Tony “The Professor” Frangie to the fold after a two-year hiatus… and we will also debut newbie Damian “The D Man” Barry. Freddie and Danny return, as do Jos and Jackie… and, of course, the original Pocket Rockets: Uncle Ron, Mere, Stepha and your humble leader. I’m looking forward to a good season. There are 18 teams in Division I, so competition should be fierce. The Surf-n-Turfs (minus Chris Simmons) return… lucky for them they are not in our conference. I expect a return to the playoffs… Gold division this time.

I’m also looking forward to this season because it marks our fifth year together… well, for some of us. I’m hoping that this will be the year we can make lots of time for off-the-field activities. To wit: a trip to Foxwoods, Mere’s Halloween party/hookupfest, a handful of team birthdays, and some other fun stuff… perhaps some live music (see below)? I’m open to suggestions! I’ll add these events to the team calendar as details become available.

Well, this really doesn’t have anything to do with Pocket Rockets football… but I saw one of Liz Phair’s two sold out shows at the Paradise last week. She’s so hot. Here’s a pic I snapped.

Also, with the season starting again I’ll be trolling the Internets for odd news to post and give you some things to do to waste the day away at work, school or wherever you are when you read these musings.
